Our Approach
Treating Obstacles to Genuine Intimacy
Sex & Pornography Addiction
Compulsive sexual behavior and pornography use can often serve as a way to cope with deeper emotional pain, loneliness, or unresolved trauma. We help men understand the underlying drivers of their behavior with curiosity and compassion. Our goal is to support clients in building a healthier relationship with sexuality, grounded in attuned connection, safety & consent, and authentically-aligned integrity.
Love Addiction
For some, the pursuit of romantic intensity becomes a way to avoid feelings of emptiness or low self-worth. Love addiction may show up as obsessive thoughts about a partner, difficulty being alone, or staying in unhealthy relationships out of fear of abandonment. We help men explore the roots of these patterns—often tied to early attachment wounds—and develop more secure, authentic ways of relating.
Love Avoidance
While it may appear as emotional distance, commitment fears, or detachment, love avoidance often stems from deep fears of vulnerability and being hurt. Many men struggling with this have learned to protect themselves by shutting down emotionally. We work with clients to safely reconnect with their emotional world and build the capacity for intimacy without overwhelming fear or shame.
Other Co-Occurring Addictions
Sex and intimacy challenges often occur alongside other forms of addiction, such as substance use, compulsive work, food issues, gambling, or gaming. These behaviors can serve as attempts to regulate emotions or escape pain. Our integrative approach addresses these co-occurring struggles holistically, recognizing that recovery is not just about stopping behaviors, but healing what drives them.
Trauma
Whether it stems from childhood neglect, abuse, betrayal, or other painful life experiences, trauma often shapes how we connect with ourselves and others. Unresolved trauma can lead to patterns of disconnection, self-sabotage, or compulsive behavior. Our program is grounded in trauma-informed care, helping men process and integrate these wounds in a safe and supportive environment.
Treatment Modalities
Carnes 30 Day Task Model
Developed by Dr. Patrick Carnes, this model provides a structured roadmap for recovery from sex and intimacy addictions. The 30 Tasks guide clients through a series of intentional steps that help address denial, build accountability, explore trauma, and develop healthy intimacy. We use this framework not as a rigid checklist, but as a flexible tool to support deep, sustainable healing at a pace that honors each individual’s journey.
Somatic Experiencing ™
Trauma lives not just in our minds but in our bodies. Somatic Experiencing helps clients reconnect with their body’s natural ability to heal from stress and overwhelm. Through gentle awareness of physical sensations, this approach supports nervous system regulation and helps release stored trauma, making space for safety, connection, and resilience.
Attachment-Based Trauma Treatment
Our early relationships shape how we see ourselves and how we relate to others. When those bonds are inconsistent, neglectful, or unsafe, they can leave lasting emotional wounds. Attachment-based trauma therapy focuses on healing these core wounds by fostering secure, attuned connections—in therapy and in life. This work helps men move from patterns of avoidance, control, or over-dependence into relationships that feel safe, reciprocal, and empowering.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is a trauma therapy that helps the brain reprocess painful or overwhelming memories so they no longer feel distressing or intrusive. It’s particularly effective for those carrying unresolved trauma or shame tied to early experiences or past relationships. Many men find EMDR empowering because it allows healing without needing to relive every detail of their trauma.
Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)
SSP is a listening-based intervention designed to calm the nervous system and increase a sense of safety and connection. By stimulating the vagus nerve through specially filtered music, SSP supports emotional regulation, reduces anxiety, and helps build trust in relationships—key foundations for intimacy and recovery.
Inner Child Therapy
Many men carry unmet emotional needs and unresolved pain from childhood, often buried beneath layers of self-reliance or shame. Inner Child Therapy creates space to reconnect with those younger parts of the self that needed care, protection, or validation—and didn’t receive it. Through this work, clients begin to offer themselves the compassion and safety they may have never known, creating profound shifts in self-worth and relational capacity.
